Functional training uses bodyweight, free weights and rather than machines. Functional exercises involve multiple joints and moving in multiple planes — meaning forwards and backwards, from side to side and rotationally. These exercises often look similar to movements you’d make in your daily life such as lifting dog food into the car or carrying bags of groceries.
